CAMERA ADJUSTMENTS
To maintain maximum performance, and trouble-free operation of the studio, it may be necessary from time to time to make small adjustments. The instructions to make these adjustments follow.
3.1 FOCUSING
Take a test strip of photographs with your position varying from forward of the normal upright position on the first frame to normal upright position on the second frame and leaning back against the rear panel for the third frame. Examine the test photographs. If the subject is out of focus in all positions, then ensure that the lens barrel and other lens components are secure. If the barrel is found to be loose, then re-position it with the front of the lens just inside the paper gasket on the mirror mounting bracket.
Repeat above test.
Note: The lens barrel is held in place by a socker set screw in the side of the lens housing. As a guide to re-focusing, the barrel should be marked before releasing the screw.
If the subject is out of focus in the rear position, move the lens barrel towards the paper (i.e. away from the prism).
If the subject is out of focus in the forward position, move the lens barrel away from the paper (i.e. towards the prism)
Note: Usually only movements of 3mm or less of the lens barrel are necessary.DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREW.
3.2 PRISM ADJUSTMENT
If the subject on the test photograph is off-centre, pivot the prism frame on the base plate of the camera to the left or right accordingly.
3.3. OUT OF PAPER MICROSWITCH ADJUSTMENT
The out of paper microswitch is fixed with a thumb-screw on the end of the cassette holder.
When the cassette is empty, the switch opens, disabling the start mechanism and the green light circuit. To adjust the paper switch, gently bend the switch arm until the switch clicks just before touching the body of the cassette holder.
3.4 FLASH MICROSWITCH
This is fixed to the bracket in the camera backplate. Bend the microswitch arm up or down slightly to adjust.
3.5 RED LIGHT MICROSWITCH
This is fixed to the central casting web of the camera. Bend the microswitch arm up or down, slightly, to adjust.
3.6 STOP/START MICROSWITCH
This is actuated by the double disc cam on the geneva gear shaft. Adjust the switch arm, so that the camera motor stops, as the geneva drive pin is just leaving the slot in the geneva drive gear.
3.7. CHAIN – GENEVA DRIVE
Adjust chain tension by releasing the motor bracket fixing screws in the back plate. Raise or lower the motor to achieve correct tension.
3.8 WHITE BORDER
When the white border assembly is correctly adjusted, the white border at the extreme top of the photostrip, is equal in width to the white border at the extreme bottom of the photostrip. If the widths are not equal, proceed as follows:
* Open the camera door and remove the border box cover.
* Remove the paper cassette.
* Insert a correctly finished photostrip as shown.
* Hold the knife (guillotine) blade closed, and roll the paper down until it hits the knife.
* Tear out a semi-circular portion of paper as shown in figure 3.1
* Move the border box up or down to align the horizontal border on the box with the correct border on the photostrip.
Re-tighten the screws after adjustment ensuring that the paper from the cassette falls naturally into the track in the white border block.
* Do not force the paper to one side as this will cause the paper to bind, resulting in inconsistent paper lengths.
3.9 BORDER LIGHT INTENSITY
The brightness of the white border is adjusted using the potentiometer on the side of the cassette holder on the top of the camera. Turn counter clockwise to dim the border, and clockwise to brighten the border.
3.10 IRIS ADJUSTMENT
The Iris adjustor (to the left of the filter holder) should be set at 11, 8, or 5.6.
