ADJUSTMENTS

To maintain maximum performance and trouble-free operation of the studio, it may be necessary to make small adjustments to the
sub-assemblies or individual components.

8.1 Spider/Trigger Adjustment

The Spider casting must be set in relation to the trigger assembly.

This is essential if the paper carriers are to turn in and out correctly.

* Put the spider on the transmission drive shaft and turn it until the point when the slot drops over the pin.

* Raise the transmission to about halfway by using the manual transmission switch. Now switch off the machine.

Release the PVC outside splash tube and let it rest below the inside tube.

* Place a 5/16 inch Allen key into the drive flange and loosen the screw. Now wind the transmission up by hand to a point approximately level with the turn-out pin on the bottom retaining dowel on the trigger assembly.

* Turn the spider until the turn-out face on the paper carrier cam is level with the lowered trigger turn-out pin bottom  retaining dowel.

* Set a trigger gap of 1 mm between the turn-out face on the paper carrier cam and the bottom dowel of the trigger turn-out pin.
(See Figure 8.1)

* Now tighten the drive flange with the 5/16 Allen key, and replace the PVC outside splash tube.

8.2 DISC CONTROL ARMS ADJUSTMENT

The seven disc control arms are each individually adjusted during manufacture. They are set in two positions; one with the paper
carrier in, that is located centrally in the standby position. The other adjustment is with the paper carrier out; that is, when the paper carrier is in the operating position.

One adjustment is made with the paper carrier in; two adjustments are made with the paper carrier out.

CAUTION: Careful Adjustment will achieve better results.
-Do not force-

To achieve the clearance of 1.5 mm on all three adjustments, use two pairs of pliers, and fractionally bend along the length indicated from the centre disc out along each arm. Having set the third adjustment ensure that the previous two have not been moved.

PAPER CARRIER ADJUSTMENT

There are two alignment systems-
Alignment System ”A” at 8.3.1

To be used if the spider assembly is set in the
correct position, but one or more Paper Carriers
are not.

Alignment System ”B” at 8. 3.2

To be used if the spider and paper carriers have
previously been used as a complete unit and now
have to be refitted to the machine.

8.3.1 Alignment System ”A”

* Switch on the transmission and run until the mis-aligned paper carrier is facing you over the front chemical tanks, then switch off the machine.

* Check the paper carrier ensuring that no welds are broken and that the paper tracks are straight.

* Unlock the radial adjustment screw. Ensure that it moves in and out of the casting easily (Now if it is necessary to use it when the paper carrier is in front of the Feed Down Unit), it will move easily.

* Slide a photostrip into the carrier and ensure that it is curved throughout its length. This is to give the rigidity necessary to hold it in place during development.

* Switch on the machine and allow the extended paper carrier to travel around until it reaches the chemical tank under the Feed
Down Unit.

* Switch off the Transmission.

* Press the machine test button and let the camera pass the photostrip into the Feed Down Unit and stop.

* Press the cut-off microswitch to cut the paper and feed the paper down between the Feed Down rollers. Stop when about 1 cm
is protruding beneath the rollers.

If necessary the paper position can be corrected by manually turning the Feed Down roller drive gears.

* Wind the transmission pulley anti-clockwise until the paper carrier with the
photostrip rises up under the Feed Down unit.

* Align the two photostrips as shown in Figure 8.5, using the loosened adjustment screw. Refer to Figure 8.2.

* Check the side of the Feed Down unit to ensure that the paper is in the correct position to enter from that angle.

* When the adjustments have been made, lower and stop the Transmission, tighten the adjustment screw and both lock nuts.

8.3.2 Alignment System ”B”

* Switch on the Transmission and let it drop to its lowest point and switch off.

* Remove the spherical nut and drop down the outside tube to expose the Drive Flange

* Loosen the screw holding the Drive Flange using a 5/16 Allen key.

* Drop the Spider and Paper Carrier assembly over the Transmission shaft and rotate the assembly until the slot in the Spider casting drops over the locating pin on the Drive Flange.

* Switch on the Transmission and allow it to begin to rise.

* Switch off the Transmission.

* Raise the transmission manually until it is possible to extend one paper carrier over the chemical tanks.

* Fit one photostrip into the paper carrier and a second photostrip into the Feed Down unit as previously described in adjustment ”A at 8.3.1”

* Turn the Spider and the loosened Drive Flange until the photostrip in the paper carrier and the photostrip in the Feed Down
unit are aligned (As shown in Figure 8.5)

* Now lock the drive flange screw.

Raise the outside tube and refit over the three support dowels on the Drive Flange.

* Replace the spherical nut and test all paper carriers.

8.4 DELIVERY UNIT ALIGNMENT

* Align the delivery unit to the paper carriers by swinging out a single paper carrier over chemical tank number 12 and placing a photostrip into it.

* Loosen the two hexagonal nuts above the delivery unit. This is to enable you to adjust the delivery unit to the paper carrier by moving the unit side to side, and backwards and forwards.

* Run the transmission by using the manual transmission switch until the paper carrier starts to rise.
Now switch off at main the switch.

Turn the transmission pulley by hand until the photostrip is about to be accepted by the delivery unit rollers.

NOTE: The arm of the delivery unit switch should be resting on the bend of the paper carrier not NOT on the spider cam.

* To check the forward and backward setting, set the photostrip in the paper carrier 1/8″ (3 mm) from the point on the front rollers, where the two rollers meet.

* To check side-by-side movement align the delivery unit to centralise its rollers between the carrier arms. To do this you should look straight down from above the corner of the camera to check the alignment.

* Carefully tighten the two hexagonal screws above the top of the delivery unit.

* Switch on the studio and operate the transmission unit with a photostrip in every paper carrier. Now check that everything
operates efficiently.

8.5 TRANSMISSION SUMMARY

1. The ball guide is fixed, adjust the transmission to locate the spherical nut.

2. The trigger body is fixed, adjust the transmission for the correct height.

3. The transmission is fixed. Set the drive flange position for correct trigger clearance.

4. The spider is fixed, adjust the paper carriers.

5. The feed-down unit is fixed, adjust the paper carriers in a lateral direction.

6. The paper carriers are fixed, adjust the delivery unit.

NOTES…
a) Line up the paper carriers to suite feed- down unit.
b) Line up the delivery unit to suit the paper carriers.

8.6 BUMPER SPRING ADJUSTMENT

Raise and lock the outside tube of the bumper spring assembly to the drive flange pins. Raise the inner tube assembly and tighten the collar to the transmission guide tube, with the locking screws at a point approximately 18 cm (6 inches } from the bottom of the chemical tank tray.

8.7. TRIGGER ADJUSTMENTS

REMOVAL

To remove the trigger from ‘the studio, first switch off the studio, and remove the 4-pin plug, which supplies power to the trigger. Next, remove the camera from the camera tray.

Remove the trigger retaining bolt on the right-hand side whilst holding the locknut underneath the camera tray.

Support the trigger, and remove the left-hand screw, which screws directly into the trigger body.

ADJUSTMENT

Hold the trigger solenoid in its energised position and measure the distance from the tip of the turn-out pin to the bottom of the trigger body.

Adjust the solenoid link until this dimension reads 27 mm or 1 1/16 inches. Refer to Figure 8.7

Allow the trigger solenoid to return to the de-energised position.

Check that the measurement from the tip of the turn-in pin to the bottom of the trigger body is 27 mm or 1 1/16 inches.

INSTALLATION

Support the trigger assembly and fasten to the camera tray with the two machine screws and one nut.

Plug the four-pin plug (See Parts Lists Illustration ), into the mains harness, and replace the camera. Switch on the machine.
